Portrait of Jolene Byrne


Jolene Byrne earned a B.A. in English from Armstrong State University and holds a M.A. in Social Science from Georgia Southern University. Jolene taught at Coastal Comprehensive Academy and Groves High School before the birth of her son. She currently teaches sociology at Armstrong State University, and occasionally teaches at Savannah State University. Her son Liam attends a charter elementary school in the district.

Jolene was honored by Savannah Technical College as a "Community Star" for her deep commitment to community service and education and has been recognized as one of Armstrong State University's "Notable Alumni." She has tutored students at the West Broad YMCA and helped organize children's health awareness events as a volunteer for the Junior League. She previously served on the board of the Matthew Reardon Center for Autism and on the Disciplinary Action Committee of the Savannah Classical Academy. She is an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Savannah and regularly volunteers for the Inner City Night Shelter.
