Superintendent Search: Savannah-Chatham County Board of Public Education
The Board of Public Education is currently accepting applications for the position of School Superintendent.
Dr. Thomas B. Lockamy, Jr., has served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System since July of 2005. He will retire at the end of the 2016-17 School Year. His retirement was announced in November 2016, and having met all requirements to satisfy retirement eligibility, was officially accepted during the January 18, 2017, School Board meeting.
The Superintendent’s retirement comes at a time of great success as illustrated by the district’s graduation rate that has now surpassed the state of Georgia for the second year in a row. The Board is focused on their work to continue this progress while addressing existing challenges and reaching even greater levels of achievement.
The School Board will utilize the services of a search firm to assist in filling the district’s top position. Ray & Associates, a professional organization that specializes in school executive leadership searches, is working closely with the School Board to conduct an extensive search that includes the development of a timeline for taking applications, job listing advertisement, assisting the Board in screening candidates, and assisting the Board in conducting interviews.
