Announcements: Spencer Elementary School Groundbreaking Ceremony

Spencer Elementary School Groundbreaking Ceremony

In a recent groundbreaking ceremony, the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System marked the official start of construction for the new Spencer Elementary school. The ESPLOST II funded project provides for the design and construction of a new elementary school to accommodate 650 students.

The facility will be constructed on the existing site and will replace the current building. Spencer's facility will consist of 37 classrooms, an art room, a music room, a computer lab, a media center; and a gymnasium with a stage included. The school design has a classical facade with the front of the building facing Wheaton Street.

Some of the Spencer Elementary family was very instrumental in the program. Students led the pledge of allegiance; Stacie Pottenger, their 2017 Teacher of the Year, recited a poem and; Tony Jackson, band director, serenaded the audience with his saxophone.

Principal Andrea Williams expressed how excited she was to begin this new journey with the school. District 2 School Board Representative, Dr. Dionne, Board President, Jolene Byrne, and Superintendent Dr. Thomas B. Lockamy, Jr. all shared their heartfelt sentiments about this momentous occasion.
