The Garrison Performance Hall will have a new name when it opens this fall. It will be called the “Yamacraw Center for the Performing Arts” after the Board of Education approved the name on October 4, 2017.
The Yamacraw Indians were the original settlers of the Savannah area before James Oglethorpe arrived and negotiated with Tomochichi and the Yamacraw to move their village up river.
The new Performance Hall is expected to be a state of the art facility that will welcome an audience of almost 600. The facility will include a modern sound control room,
performance stage and lighting, theater and band classrooms, a piano lab, chorus classroom, set design space and a box office.
