Announcements: Three SCCPSS Students Recognized in Inaugural State-wide Law Day Competition

Three SCCPSS Students Recognized in Inaugural State-wide Law Day Competition

Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools had three winners in the Inaugural Law Day Coloring/Original Poster Competition last month.  The contest was sponsored by the Judicial Council/Administrative Office of the Courts, Georgia Council of Court Administrators, and the Georgia Department of Education. The contest was open to all private, public, and homeschooled students in Georgia and drew over 2,500 coloring sheets and 50 original posters for consideration from schools throughout the state.
The contest was based on the American Bar Association’s theme for 2017:  “The 14th Amendment: Transforming American Democracy.”  The submissions were placed in grade level categories and reviewed by the Judicial Council.  There are three contest winners from Chatham County.
Liza Hall of Island’s High School placed third in the State in the category high school original poster.
Ava Burr, a student at the STEM Academy at Bartlett, won first place in middle school original poster category,
and Malia Johnson, a student at Marshpoint Elementary, won first place in the category third to fifth grade.
On Friday, November 17, 2017 a Law Day Awards Ceremony was held at the Chatham County Courthouse. All three winners received a “scales of justice” trophy and the first place winners each received a $10.00 gift card to Walmart.
