On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, C.A.T. (Chatham Area Transit) accepted SCCPSS’ Million Book Challenge by donating 30 books to the district. This year, C.A.T. is celebrating their 30th Anniversary and as one of the district’s business partners, they decided to make a donation to the Million Book Challenge.
The Million Book Challenge is a way to provide reading literacy support and to reinforce the importance of reading. Since the start of this initiative, SCCPSS has received support from many partners in the community, including C.A.T.
Kimberly Hancock, Executive Director, Elementary & K8 Governance and Janet Junco, Teacher Specialist, Academic Affairs, along with members from the West Chatham Middle School Chorus were on hand for the presentation. “The books will go into some of our elementary and middle schools” says Junco.
“It’s our 30th Anniversary” says Valerie H. Ragland, C.A.T.’s Outreach Manager “and before it ended, we wanted to donate 30 books about public transportation to the school district as well as challenge other businesses to participate in the Million Book Challenge.”
