Principal Andrea B. Williams Celebrated at Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System marked the completion of the new Andrea B. Williams Elementary school in a recent ceremony. Formerly Spencer, the ESPLOST II funded project is designed to accommodate 650 students. Williams Elementary consists of 37 classrooms, an art room, a music room, a computer lab, a media center, and a gymnasium with a stage included. The school has a classical facade with the front of the building facing Wheaton Street.

This ceremony was also special as it recognized the late Principal Andrea B. Williams. Elected officials, board representatives, community members and staff were all in attendance for this momentous occasion. Principal Williams passed away in November of 2017. To celebrate her legacy, the school's named was changed officially in December.

The night included many highlights. District 2 School Board Representative Dr. Dionne Hoskins-Brown and House Representative Mickey Stephens presented a Letter of Recognition from Governor Nathan Deal to Mrs. Williams's family. They also presented a Georgia Outstanding Citizen proclamation from Secretary of State Brian Kemp. The Educate Chatham Foundation presented a $3000 check to Williams Elementary School with funds donated in Mrs. Williams's honor to go toward classroom technology.

Principal Andrea Williams served the Savannah-Chatham Public School System for 34 years. During the ceremony, a plaque was unveiled to commemorate her work. Dr. Hoskins-Brown, School Board Vice-President Mrs. Cornelia Hall, and Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Ann Levett all expressed their joy for what transpired. Principal Williams was truly honored.
