Godley Station Student Wins "How Big Is Your Dream" Music Scholarship

Congratulations to 8th grade Godley Station student Katherine Smith, who won a scholarship in the “How Big is Your Dream” Scholarship competition!  The scholarship is open to middle and high schools students who maintain at least a 2.5 GPA and demonstrate due diligence in achieving their musical talent.  Winning applicants much demonstrate exemplary character through leadership, integrity and volunteerism within their school and community, submit two recommendations – one from an academic instructor and one from an arts instructor and submit a personal essay on the subject “How BIG is your Dream?...and how would it impact the community?

Ms. Smith is one of only two students in the state of Georgia to be awarded a $600 scholarship which she plans to use for finding a specialist instructor on Tuba – one of the most challenging brass instruments to play.  Her Godley Station Band Instructor Oscar Ortiz says, “She has aspirations of continuing to complete in our All-State Auditions which entails the District Honor Band- first round, and then the all-state level afterwards.  Beyond her band studies, she is also looking to pick up some skills as a bassist and hopes to be able to explore writing music of her own.”
