Over 3,000 students were nominated to the state level Governor’s Honors Program competition this year and over 1,600 of them participated in this year’s state interview and selection process. Of those 1,600 – thirteen SCCPSS students have been chosen as finalists.
The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students who will be rising juniors and seniors during the program. The program offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom and that is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders.
GHP will be held this summer of the campus of Berry College in Rome, GA. Students attend classes in the mornings and afternoons in specific areas of study, and participate in a wide variety of social and instructional opportunities every evening.
The thirteen SCCPSS students who have been named finalists for the program include – 10 from Savannah Arts Academy and one each from Jenkins High School, Islands High School, and Windsor Forest High School. One other student from Savannah Arts Academy is listed as an alternate.
