Announcements: Five SCCPSS Students Named State-Level Winners in K-12 Geospatial Competition

Title

Five SCCPSS Students Named State-Level Winners in K-12 Geospatial Competition

Body

Five SCCPSS students have been named winners of the Georgia K-12 Geospatial Competition.  The competition is held each year for Students in grades 4-12 who can participate in teams      of 1 or         2. The students complete a custom project, then create a        web app or story map about their project, and submit it to their school.  Teachers at each school then choose the school’s 5 best to submit to the state.  The states pick their 5 best high school entries and 5 best middle school entries and pick one in each age category to move on to national competition.

SCCPSS students were named in 3 of the 5 slots for best middle school entries and one of those winners is now moving on to national completion.  The District also boasts two of the five best statewide entries in the high school level completion.  Our winners are:  Jada Adger, Austin Eckert and Jaylynn Priester – all of the STEM Academy and taught by teacher Vicki Albritton.  Austin Eckert has been chosen to move on to National Competition.

The SCCPSS state winners in the high school level competition are:  Ana Carvalho and Vi Loung – both of Jenkins High School and instructed by Teacher Steven Freenor.
