Title

SCCPSS Among the Top Ten U.S. School Districts Honored for Technology!

Body

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System placed third in a national survey assessed by the Center for Digital Education, a national research and advisory institute specializing in K-12 and higher education technology trends.  The survey showcases exemplary school boards’ and districts’ use of technology to govern the district, communicate with students, parents and the community, and to improve district operations.

The announcement was made at an awards reception during the National School Board Association conference in Boston, MA.  SCCPSS competed in the Large Student Population District category against districts with 12,000 or more students, placing SCCPSS in the company of Barrow and Fayette Counties, as well as school districts from Kansas City, Roanoke, Houston, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Colorado Springs, and Chicago.

Those that demonstrated the most comprehensive use of digital technology were included among the top ten ranking districts.  SCCPSS’ usage of technology in the classroom, administrative applications, and digital communication channels were among the highlights in the survey.  Anne L. Bryant, the Executive Director of NSBA encouraged others to look to SCCPSS and these districts as a model for exceptional usage of technology.  “With rising expectations and shrinking resources, these districts have utilized technology to effectively serve their students, educators, and community members.  School boards across the country should look to these districts for ideas about using technology to make their work as a board more transparent and their district operations more efficient,” she said.

Founded in 1940, the National School Boards Association (NSBA) is a not-for-profit organization representing state associations of school boards and their more than 90,000 local school board members throughout the U.S. Working with and through state associations, NSBA advocates for equity and excellence in public education through school board leadership.  See www.nsba.org.  The Center for Digital Education is a national research and advisory institute specializing in K-12 and higher education technology trends, policy and funding.  CDE supports the Converge media platform composed of the Converge Special Reports and convergemag.com.
