Announcements: Otis J. Brock, III Elementary School Groundbreaking Ceremony

Otis J. Brock, III Elementary School Groundbreaking Ceremony

On Monday, June 30, 2015, at 10:30am, district officials, school board representatives, school faculty, staff, and students gathered to celebrate the beginning of construction for the new Brock Elementary School facility.

This project is a new school that will be constructed on the existing site and will replace the current building.

The new Brock Elementary will be approximately 96,000 square feet in size and will include classrooms; a gymnasium, kitchen and cafeteria with a stage; media center with a computer lab; art room; music room; teacher workrooms and resource rooms. The school is designed to accommodate 650 students, with the potential to expand to 900 students in the future.

Some of the students from Brock Elementary were very instrumental in the program as they led the Pledge of Allegiance, recited poetry, and serenaded the audience through song. Brock’s principal, Mrs. Maggie Walker-Zeigler shared how excited she was to begin this new journey with the school. District 8 School Board Representative, Mrs. Ruby D. Jones, school Board President Ms. Jolene Byrne and Superintendent Dr. Thomas B. Lockamy, Jr. all shared their heartfelt sentiments about this momentous occasion.

Otis J. Brock, III’s mother, Annette K. Brock, and his two daughters, Zuri and Zoe, were there to witness the groundbreaking ceremony.  This program was a wonderful way to honor the life of a dignitary in our community.
