Announcements: Teacher of the Year Flag Raising Ceremony

Teacher of the Year Flag Raising Ceremony

On Monday, October 5, 2015, district officials, board members, faculty, staff, and students gathered at Windsor Forest High School to raise the Flag of Learning and Liberty in honor of the current Teacher of the Year, Ernie Lee.

This ceremony symbolizes the importance of quality education and represents teachers who contribute to the betterment of our community through stellar teaching practices. As a representative of the many quality teachers across the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, the district’s Teacher of the Year is honored with the distinction of having the Flag of Learning and Liberty proudly displayed at his or her school.

Mr. Lee, who is also the 2016 Georgia Teacher of the Year, shared with those in attendance the characteristics of the flag, detailing its symbolism as a powerful connection between liberty, freedom, and education. The flag will be displayed at Windsor Forest High School for the entire 2015-2016 school year.

Mr. Lee teaches International Baccalaureate History, U.S. Government and Civics. As the Georgia Teacher of the Year, he will represent teachers across the state by speaking to the public about the teaching profession and leading the SCCPSS Professional Senate for Savannah-Chatham educators. He will also compete for the 2016 National Teacher of the Year.

Ernie Lee was honored during the ceremony by district officials including the Windsor Forest High Principal, Derrick Butler and the Superintendent of Schools, Thomas B. Lockamy, Jr., Ed.D.
