Deep Center was one of those chosen from more than 285 nominations nationwide to receive the award.   The organization will also receive $10,000 to support its programming, which provides free writing workshops for public school students in Savannah-Chatham County public schools.

Andre is a freshman at Woodville-Tomkins Technical and Career High School who started in the Deep Center program last year while at Mercer Middle School.  Andre attended the event at the White House along with his father to share his experience with the program and his personal journey of discovery through poetry.
