New Teacher Orientation

System Orientation for Incoming Educators [SOFIE]

Starting a teaching job in a new school district can be a pretty scary experience. No amount of college teaching training and theoretical methods can and will prepare you for all that can happens in the new school year ahead. New Teacher Orientation has been developed to ease those transitional anxieties. New teachers (new to the profession and new to the school district) will be provided with information and training as they get ready to begin the new school year.

The Savannah Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS), New Teacher Orientation (two day district level orientation and three day school level orientation) is developed for new teachers in order to prepare them for the demands of the profession and acclimate them to their roles in the SCCPSS. Teachers who attend New Teacher Orientation will:

    • Meet and network with teachers from their assigned schools and other schools in the district.
    • Be introduced to the Board president, members of the Board of Education, the Superintendent and other district personnel.
    • Hear information about the teacher induction program as an ongoing support to teachers throughout the school year.
    • Receive information and training about dealing with classroom challenges in accordance with the requirements of public education.
    • Become acquainted with information about teacher evaluation.
    • Learn or be reminded about Standards Based instructional practices.
    • Learn about support services offered to teachers from business and community vendors.
    • Receive information about benefits and employment requirements with the school district.
    • Hear information from teacher support organizations.
    • And…much more!
