Gadsden Elementary School Groundbreaking

On, October 13, 2011, the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System marked the official start of construction for the new Gadsden Elementary school.  Many community members were on hand to take part in a groundbreaking ceremony that was lead off with a performance by the Gadsden Elementary School Chorus.  The multi-million dollar ESPLOST funded project will provide students with a state of the art learning facility and will serve the residents of the Kayton/Frazier neighborhood.

The 91,000 square foot facility will house 43 new instructional units including, classrooms, band and art rooms, media center, gymnasium, computer lab, and cafeteria.  The building is set to house energy efficient concepts and will provide natural daylight to classrooms.

The Robert W. Gadsden Elementary school has been a fixture in this community for many years.  Today, the school offers the Core Knowledge Curriculum based in the educational foundation and practice that knowledge builds on knowledge. The more you know, the more you are able to learn.  Nearly all of our most important goals for education–greater reading comprehension, the ability to think critically and solve problems, even higher test scores–are a function of the depth and breadth of our knowledge.  Gadsden Elementary is also a Title I School of Distinction.
