The School Nutrition Program falls within the Division of Support Services. The program is administered by a Certificated Director, Senior Accountant, and three Certificated Coordinators. The School Nutrition Program receives federal reimbursement for eligible meals served to all students. Other revenue is generated from meals sold to paying and reduced students, a la carte sales, adult meals, and catering. The School Nutrition Program is self-supporting and does not receive monies from the local board of education general funds. The district’s total percentage of students eligible for Free and Reduced Price Meals was 64% during the 2011-2012 school year.
The School Nutrition Program will be serving school meals that meet tough new federal nutrition standards, ensuring that meals are healthy, well-balanced, and provide students all the nutrition they need to succeed at school. School meals offer students milk, fruits, vegetables, proteins, and grains. Each item must meet strict limits for saturated fat and portion size. Menus are planned to meet the new guidelines for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and the Healthier U.S. Schools Challenge. Your support is needed as the program offers healthier menu selections for the children.
Breakfast and Lunch are offered daily at each school. The breakfast and lunch meal schedules are planned by each school principal.
If you forget to send money, pre-pay for meals, or you did not update your free and reduced price meal application for the new school year, the program offers an alternate meal to your child(ren):
- Breakfast: Cheese on Whole Wheat Bread, 1 carton of Unflavored Skim Milk and ½ cup fruit
- Lunch: Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich on Whole Wheat Bread OR Cheese Sandwich on Whole Wheat Bread, 1 carton of Unflavored Skim Milk and ½ cup fruit (K-8) or 1 cup fruit (9-12).
