The Iowa Tests of Basic Skills were administered to students in grades 3, 5, and 8 during the month of October 2009.  Unlike Georgia’s Criterion-referenced Competency Tests (CRCT), the ITBS is nationally normed and administered throughout the country.  It includes separate assessments in the areas of reading, language, mathematics, social studies, science, and sources of information.  The test also provides an overall measure of achievement referred to as the composite score.  Specific areas of assessment are indicated below.

All scores presented in this report are expressed as national percentile ranks … not to be confused with percent correct scores.  The national percentile ranks reported here indicate how well a typical student within a particular grade performed relative to a representative national sample of students taking this test during the midyear of 2000 (the norm group). The 50^th percentile, the score that divides the upper and lower half of the scores, represents the national average, while scores between the 25^th and 75^th percentile represent the average range.  Scores below the 25^th percentile or above the 75^th percentile are considered to be below or above average, respectively. 

Results for the Winter 2008 and Fall 2009 administration of the ITBS are summarized in tables shown below. To assist the reader in the use of this report, the scores at or above the national average (50^th percentile) are highlighted in blue. There are several schools that have met or exceeded the national average for performance.
