Nutrition Education

We encourage and support health and nutrition education in the classroom. Teaching nutrition to students will help them to grow and learn to their fullest potential and we believe it is the key to promoting lifelong health and wellness. Nutrition Education establishes the basic skills for making healthy eating and lifestyle choices that will carry them into adulthood.

Our school’s breakfast and lunch programs help students to establish the healthy eating habits that they need to grow, learn and play. School meals include nutritious foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and calcium rich low fat milk.

Bridges to Wellness: Connecting School Meals and Classroom Learning

SNF and the National Dairy Council have partnered to develop Bridges to Wellness: Connecting School Meals and Classroom Learning, a set of interactive nutrition education lessons for students in grades 5-10. These lessons are designed to provide classroom instruction with school nutrition program-based application activities. Bridges to Wellness will help school districts meet the nutrition education goals in their local school wellness policies. Bridges to Wellness also supports the historic intent of the school nutrition programs to provide a learning laboratory for school-based nutrition education. All lessons are reviewed by both teachers and school nutrition operators experienced with the targeted student grade levels.
