Title

Areas of Emphasis in the Montessori Environment

Body

In the primary grades, we focus on the child and monitoring their individual progression through the Montessori spectrum of materials.
                                   Practical life:
The direct aim of the practical life materials is concentration, fine motor skills, independence, order, and coordination. The activities aid the child in the development of these skills, which lead to academic success. This is the foundation of the academic child.
                                    Sensorial:
The sensorial materials are the foundation of the child's mathematical mind. It helps develop the child's ability to make distinctions and reasoning abilities. It also helps the child grasp abstract concepts thus assisting in the development of the mathematical mind.
                                    Language:
The language materials emphasize sound before letter recognition, which commonly leads to writing before reading.
