Joseph D. Johnson, Ed.S.

 

Joseph D. Johnson

Joseph learned the importance and affinity of books and literacy at a

very young age.  His school librarian nurtured this, and let him work in

the library when he could.  This marked the start of his passion in

education and the library.

Joseph worked five years in Atlanta concentrating in technology, before returning to Savannah and earning his B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Armstrong Atlantic State.  After certification, he worked for seven years at Gadsden Elementary teaching K-3rd grades, where he became fascinated with the impact technology and a blended curriculum had on closing the gap that existed for many of his students.  Due to no fault of their own, many come with a low background knowledge in reading, math, and other skills (social and academic) that need to be solidified before a firm foundation can be built.   Using technology with the curriculum, extreme differentiation was possible as well as a more collaborative environment.

            Joseph then earned his M.Ed. in Instructional Technology and School Library Media from Georgia Southern, where he has become the Teacher Librarian and Instructional Technology Specialist (LMTS) for Brock Elementary.  He continued to attend Georgia Southern, and finished his Ed.S. Degree in the same areas, as well as an endorsement in Online Teaching and Learning. He has worked tirelessly to build up technology and incorporate the blended model through resources such as online interactive eBooks, online modules that support the curriculum at his school to help teachers reinforce their standards, engaging students and their learning, as well as gaining support from outside stakeholders.
