Announcements: Operation Beacon Launched to Encourage Volunteering in Schools

Operation Beacon Launched to Encourage Volunteering in Schools

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System is looking for volunteers to donate their time at our schools. Volunteers provide valued resources and experiences for our students and create connections that strengthen our schools. SCCPSS seeks to organize and capture our volunteers' enthusiasm for education and passion for serving our schools. The District is launching "Operation Beacon" as a new focused initiative to increase the number of volunteers who are currently working with our schools. The official launch of the OPERATION BEACON VOLUNTEER PROGRAM this school year allows us to organize and capture our volunteers’ enthusiasm for education and passion for serving our schools. Volunteering provides a wide array of opportunities in school operations that range from classroom helpers to tutors and mentors, to extracurricular activities and special events. We have opportunities to volunteer your time or expertise in nearly every area of interest! In support of this initiative, SCCPSS will host six Volunteer Information Sessions the week of July 17th to share more details on the volunteer program. The schedule of sessions are as follows: Tuesday, July 18, 2017 – 9:00am to 11:00am – Southwest Middle School, 6030 Ogeechee Road, Savannah 5:30pm to 7:30pm – Hodge Elementary School, 975 Clinch Street, Savannah Thursday, July 20, 2017 – 9:00am to 11:00am & 5:30pm t0 7:30pm – BOTH sessions to be held at: Woodville Tompkins Lower Campus, 402 Market Street, Savannah Saturday, July 22, 2017 – 9:00am to 10:30am & 10:30am to Noon – BOTH sessions to be held at: Johnson High School, 3012 Sunset Blvd., Savannah The sessions will provide community members interested in volunteering with a basic overview of the volunteer program and you’ll have the opportunity to speak with representatives from some of our schools.
