The community of Thunderbolt maintains a rich and varied part of history as does its first school. Thunderbolt’s first school was established in the 1800’s by a Miss Aggie Gray. In 1894, this school of remembrance was built only under the stipulation that Miss Gray finish constructing it herself, which she did. The school remained a one-room schoolhouse until the 1950’s when it moved to Mechanics Avenue where the current Thunderbolt Library stands. Throughout the years, Thunderbolt Elementary School has partnered with several businesses. Thunderbolt School became a Marine Science Academy in 2004 under the MAGNET program. In 2009, Thunderbolt Elementary received the prestigious award of number one MAGNET school in America. Ms. Jill Lepo-Wieniewitz served as the program’s coordinator from 2004-2010. Thunderbolt Elementary school maintains a rich history through its prestige, high-quality education and commitment to educate every student that grace the doors.
