From the Principal - Mrs. Kerry Coursey:
As a long time resident of Wilmington Island, I am very excited about the continued opportunity to serve the students and families of Coastal Middle School. Being a part of the community that I serve helps me to build relationships with students and families and to increase opportunities for communication. It is my goal to lead Coastal Middle School to become the BEST middle school in the state of Georgia. We continue to excel academically as measured by standardized tests and through a wide variety of academic competitions. Coastal Middle School was one of only 10 middle schools in the state of Georgia to receive the 2011 Governor's Office of Student Achievement Platinum Level Award for Greatest Gains in Student Achievement. Our student-athletes also experience a great deal of success on and off the playing field.
From the Assistant Principal - Mrs. LaTashia Thomas
I am honored and excited to serve as assistant principal of Coastal Middle School. I am a native of Savannah, GA. I am a graduate of Alfred E. Beach High School. I received a B.S. in Sociology from Georgia Southern University, a Master of Public Administration from Savannah State University, and an M.Ed. in Middle Grades Education from Armstrong Atlantic State University. I am currently pursuing a doctorate in Curriculum Studies at Georgia Southern University. I have had the pleasure of working for the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System as a middle grades English/Language Arts teacher, testing coordinator, and an alternative teacher preparation professor.
I hope to encourage the continued trend of data-driven, differentiated instruction and learning that has been demonstrated by the faculty, staff, and students of Coastal Middle School. I am committed to ensuring that we continue to teach and learn from a curriculum that is academically challenging, meets the needs of all learners, and further explores best practices and new ideas to ensure the success of all students.
