Frequently Asked Questions
  • How many days can my child be absent?

The attendance policy states that a parent may write up to 5 parent excuses per school year.  After the 5th parent note/excuse, all other absences will be unexcused unless there is a doctor’s note or obituary from an immediate family member.

Excused absences include the following:  personal illness, serious illness or death of a students’ immediate family member, observance of religious holidays, active duty military family leave, orders of governmental agencies, conditions rendering attendance impossible or hazardous to student health or safety.  You must send or bring in the proper documentation.

Unexcused absences include the following, even with parental consent: missing the bus, oversleeping, car troubles, family trips, etc

A student that has 10 or more unexcused absences is considered to be legally truant and the parent is subject to prosecution through the Juvenile Court if the absences are not cleared up or continues to miss school.

Please be aware that students with 15 or more absences per school year will be retained per board policy.
