Congratulations to our 2019-2020
Teacher of the Year representative
Ms. Shirmira Hill. Ms. Hill has five years teaching experience at Hubert Middle School. In addition, to teaching visual arts she serves as an active member of the leadership team, Beacon Volunteer Coordinator, Sunshine Committee president, new teacher mentor and girl's volleyball coach.
Ms. Hill's early education career began at Armstrong Atlantic State University where she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Arts. She went on to pursue a Master of Fine Arts in Photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). During her studies at SCAD, her thesis work visually documented the psychological and developmental effects parental incarceration has on children. After completing her graduate studies at SCAD she began traveling the world as a photographer for a non-profit organization. Hill's passion for giving back also led her to photograph and serve on various world mission trips. Upon returning to Savannah, Ga, Hill began volunteering at local schools. Her experience volunteering in the Chatham County Public School System is where her passion for teaching ignited.
Hill's teaching philosophy is very simple. "Students must know that you care first because their success derives from meaningful relationships. When students feel valued they can open their hearts and minds to teaching and learning." Ms. Hill cultivates an environment where each student, no matter their background, feels loved and valued.
