What is Core Knowledge?
The Core Knowledge sequence is a detailed outline of specific content to be taught in core subjects and the fine arts. The Sequence represents an ongoing attempt to state specifically a core of shared knowledge that children learn in American schools. It is cumulative and builds upon itself year after year, building on what students already know.
How does it influence the curriculum?
The Core Knowledge sequence guides our curriculum, but it is not the only aspect of our curriculum. Other aspects of our program include instruction in history, geography, civics, critical thinking skills, and gifted education, as well as the study of Latin as a foreign language. In addition, technology is strongly integrated throughout the curriculum. All students receive computer instruction weekly.
