Savannah's Maritime History
Massie is excited to announce the development of our latest exhibit, which will showcase the importance of Savannah's maritime history. The central focus of this exhibit will be 19 model ships than span the course of history. Thanks to the generous donation from the family of Maurice Greco, who created these impressive pieces, Massie will show how Savannah developed into a major port over time.
Through a partnership with the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Industrial Design students and graduates will research, design, and fabricate this new exhibit while working with Massie staff to create content that draws from the most significant moments in Savannah's maritime history.
On July 25, 2014, on what would have been the 76th birthday of Mr. Greco, Massie held a commemoration ceremony to showcase the collection and for it to be formally presented to Massie from his family. This event allowed members of the media to see the ship collection and to hear from members of the SCAD team on their progress in the creation of the exhibit.
