The State of Georgia established the school council system to bring parents and the community together with teachers and school administrators to create a better understanding of and mutual respect for each other's concerns, and share ideas for school improvement and student achievement.

In recent years, the Savannah Arts Academy School Council has been instrumental in securing funding for cafeteria and band room renovations, in securing ESPLOST appropriations, in working with the Facilities department on roof and window replacement projects, and in working with Academic Affairs to make the admissions process more consistent and transparent.
