WCES Nurse Information
Ms. Loftin RN, WCES school nurse, is here to take care of children if they get sick at school and to provide health education to students, staff, and parents. If your child is too ill to stay at school for the remainder of the day, the nurse will call you to come pick your child up. Please make sure the school has your most recent contact information for this purpose.
To prevent the spread of illness to other students:
Children should stay at home if they have a temperature above 100°F, if they are vomiting or have vomited in the past 2 hours, or have a contagious virus, such as pink eye or the flu.
When your child is absent, a written note must be sent to the school upon the student’s return. Only 5 written excuses from parents are permitted each school year; additional absences require a doctor’s note.
Medication at School
Students may not carry any medication to or from school. This policy is for the safety of all students and may be found in the Student Code of Conduct. A parent must bring the medication to the clinic and sign it in with the school nurse if the student requires medication be given during the school day. Parents, please remember to pick up all medication from the nurse's office before the end of school.
To ensure the health and safety of the students needing medication in school:
- Medication can be administered at school with a written physician order and written parent permission. This includes over the counter medications, such as Tylenol, and medicinal substitutes, such as nutritional supplements.
- Contact the school nurse before bringing in medications. The school nurse will provide the required doctor and parent forms.
- All medication must be delivered by a parent/guardian in the original prescription bottle. (Pharmacy will provide two bottles upon request for home and school use.)
