MICHAEL P. BUSTEED
Lieutenant Colonel Michael Busteed graduated from Benedictine Military High School in 1984 and in 1988 he graduated from Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL, with a Bachelors of Science in Marketing and was immediately commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Aviation Branch.
Following the completion of flight school, LTC Busteed’s first assignment was at Fort Bragg, NC, where he served as an Airborne Air Traffic Services Platoon Leader with service during Desert Shield/Storm, a Utility Helicopter General Support Platoon Leader, and an Aviation Group Assistant S-3. His next assignment was in Korea where he served as an Aircraft Maintenance Operations Platoon Leader and then was assigned to Ft Campbell, KY, where he served as an Aircraft Allied Shops Platoon Leader and Company Commander for C Company, 5-101st Aviation Regiment. LTC Busteed served as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Furman University in Greenville, SC, and following that assignment was once again assigned to Korea where he served as the Brigade S-4 for the 17th Aviation Brigade. Following attendance at the Command and General Staff College, LTC Busteed returned to Ft Bragg, NC, where he commanded India Company, 4-159th Aviation Intermediate Maintenance (AVIM) during Operation Iraqi Freedom and then served as the Chief, Aviation Readiness Division for the 1st Corps Support Command. LTC Busteed’s final assignment was as the Professor of Military Science at Fresno State University where he retired from active duty in 2009. Upon retiring, LTC Busteed returned to Savannah, GA where he currently serves as the Senior Army Instructor for the Windsor Forest High School Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program.
LTC Busteed’s military training and education includes the U.S. Army Airborne Course, Air Assualt Course, Aviation Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, UH-1H Huey Helicopter Course, UH-60 Blackhawk Course, Aircraft Maintenance Operations and Test Pilot Course and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. Additionally, he has earned a Masters in Business Administration from Touro University.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters); Air Medal; Joint Service Commendation Medal; Army Commendation Medal (2 Oak Leaf Cluster); Army Achievement Medal (2 Oak Leaf Cluster); National Defense Service Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Korean Defense Service Medal; Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal; Southwest Asia Service Medal; Saudi Arabian Medal for the Liberation of Kuwait; Kuwaiti Medal for the Liberation of Kuwait. He is also authorized to wear the Senior Army Aviator Badge with over 1,100 hours of flight time.
