Students today are faced with numerous challenges in a diverse, global society. In order for students to succeed in school, at work, and in the community, they will need more skills and knowledge than in previous years. To meet these challenges, the state of Georgia has established new standards to help schools design and implement new Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) programs.

Career, Technical and Agricultural Education is an essential component of the high school curriculum. For many students, it represents as much as a third of their high school experience. It is a critical component in meeting the needs of students in:

  • Academic Achievement
  • Career Exploration
  • Career Preparation
  • Leadership Development

Successful transition to postsecondary education, work, or the military is one of the goals of Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS). To meet this goal,  SCCPSS middle and high schools use applied, contructive and project based activities to provide technical/career exploration as well as job specific training and preparation. CTAE instructors strive to create challenging courses which emulate real world skills using current technology and resources. SCCPSS offers courses in:

  • Agriculture
  • Architecture, Construction Communication & Transportation
  • Business & Computer Science
  • Culinary Arts
  • Education
  • Engineering & Technology
  • Family & Consumer Science
  • Government & Public Service
  • Healthcare Science
  • Marketing, Sales & Service

Students have the opportunity to specialize in a specific Career Pathway by attending Woodville Tompkins Technical & Career High School where they spend part of their school days completing a career pathway in their program concentration. CTAE provides students with more career opportunities to meet the needs of the expanding workforce in Savannah.
